GH, Chennai-600003

Is it General hospital or Govt: Hospital or (Gorgeous, gratuitous recovery provider, genius doctors, good enough facilities) hospital????? I visited GH today and was astonished at itz clean and healthy environment. All private hospitals stand no-where near this one. The treatment given here is almost free for low-income group. The patient whom I visited was in his convalescence period after an important operation. The total amount he paid for the period of 2 days is just Rs 40/-. It would not be the same in any private hospitals. The place looks spic & span and even if there is anything thats becuase of our people's actions. The place is visited by lakhs of people and it requires a solid working hours to keep that clean. The real history of GH is like this:It is perhaps the country's first hospital was set up over 300 years ago in Chennapatna, now Chennai. It was Governor Edward Winter who set up that hospital at Fort. St. George, for the British residents. On October 15,...

Happy Republic Day!!!

Image
Saare jahan se achcha, Hindustitha hamara hamara, Saare jahan se achcha. There was once a time when I used to wake up early and go for the Republic Day parade that happens in my school. Every year the parade contains the proud productions of Tank Factory. Vijayanta, T-72 [Defense tanks] is always the BEST that Indian Defense Organizations could develop. On that day people were allowed to get into tanks and have a small ride [Shuld I call it pleasure ride or a proud Indianism]. My dad used to show me the techniques and parts he worked with. These were a routine for every Independence & Republic Day. Life in defense colony is always a wonderful experience. A series of similar quarters, shady roads, and a small market that contains everything you require. It can be taken as the most comfortable life. The colony is placed away from city’s dusty life. You can find lots of greenery and vacant spaces left just for trees to grow. When Chennai city faces water scarcity you won’t experience...

One flew over Cuckoos’ Nest

Got that book from my friend to drive away the boredom. I found it too hard to continue reading it with the first few chapters. Even I just closed it down in the midway b’coz of the slow pace of story. Recently Time Magazine made a lists of top 100 English Language novels from 1923 to the present and this book was listed. So started off again to find out how it got into that list. The plot and my views about that book: Plot: Randle Patrick McMurphy... He's a man full of life, and the will to live. It's hard to describe his character in full. He's been committed to an asylum from a normal prison. It's been rumored that he got in there intentionally to get out of prison labor. From the moment he enters the building it's war between he and the dictator, I mean head nurse, who runs the ward. She has all of the authority, and he only the will to set the balance right. I don't want to give away the story so that's all I can give you. According to me: It's be...

Ur photo is rejected!!!

“Stop!!! Your photo is rejected as you are smiling in it.” Have you ever heard of this line? Or is it new to you? Then hear this. This is a RULE in U.K. Your passport size photos are rejected in UK just because you are smiling in it. Around 15,000 photos are rejected in a short duration because of this rule. "The subject's expression should be neutral [non-smiling] with both eyes open, and mouth closed," says a rule cited in the rejection of a visa photograph of a tooth-showing person. When it comes to some U.S. government photos, smiling is frowned upon. But most people won't know they're not supposed to smile unless they visit the U.S. State Department's Web site and read the lengthy set of instructions for photographs, including colors permitted for the background, proper lighting, directions for eye height, head orientation, and the necessary "natural expression" with no squinty eyes or flashing teeth. The reason they specify for these instructi...

Shopping in T.Nagar

A place that never becomes dull. Be it Sundays or year ends.Crowds hovering around petty shops in platform, poor husbands tending their kids when moms are busy selecting vastrakala sarees and small chat food stalls selling cut mangoes like hot cakes always brings u to a well known & homely atmosphere.Even when gold rates are hiking up like anything, every single jewellery shop is crowded. The madness for shopping and buying clothes is quite high offlate.Shopping only for diwali and pongal is not the trend nowadays, just for fun -shopping crowd with friends, girlfriends and boyfriends and who else are not there in this place.Starting from all silk sarees to kids dress, food items and what not u can find in T.Ngr.But what ever it is, shopping in that mind boggling crowd has itz own fun.I am too dogmatic about this place that any duty free shops or a mall that holds fashion world's best ever found costumes doesn't match this place.

My dearest friend.

An unimaginative product of Prince; many say we look like twins, She floats in a filmy world, with a voice of sweet bird; Enriching herself with a musical database, Can answer to any wonderful maze. A naive woman of beauty, helping others is her first duty; Warms up people with a smile, And itz vibrancy reaches up a mile; Gets calls more than a BPO, Lends her ears to your woe. Made glass bangles as her identity, And brought it back to city. Cricket & dravid in her tips, Mumuring songs of Karthick in lips. A chirpy woman of enthusiasm, This is how I define her. With a name short enough to call And a person sweet enough to have as a friend. Too much hooked up with these so called poems. So jst taking a short time break with this one to fulfill my friend's request.

Shoot out in an International conference? A terror that struck an international conference at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus on Wednesday night killing a retired Mathematics professor from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, M.C. Puri, and seriously injuring four others including one of the inventors of the Simputer. According to eye witness accounts,a lone gunman[in campus...security pleaseeeeeeeeee] threw greenades and fled.Where does terrorism come in an conference of Operational Research? Some says it is an attack on Science[Sounds like a fan of Angels And Demons]. This has created a bad effect on Bangalore's Securtiy as such including the murder & rape of a BPO employee. SIXTY SECONDS OF MAYHEM [Source: Indian Express ] 1. 7.15 pm: After seminar at J N Tatar auditorium, opposite main IISc campus, delegates move to Satish Dhawan (CSIC) auditorium, 100 metres away, for a meeting 2. 7.20 pm: Gun-wielding man emerges from wooded parking area between two ...

As I know him.......

Too early for my next post huh? Jst check it out. As I know him.... Sleepy eyes peeping from desk; bookworm chewing at itz best; Sharemarket and internet as his mission, spreads magic with his diction. This was all,my classmate, As I know him, just an appendage. But his recherche’traits I knew late, which then made him look great. Thereupon the facts stand apart, sleepy eyes look sensitive; bookworm became informative. Deep inside I found a caring heart, ready to help out in distress, And winsome enough to impress. Trifling is his past time, I was scapegoat at times, Music is one among his favorite; And a guy who detest cricket. Lots more to say about my comerade, With whom I had oodles of chats, Still have discoveries to be made, And now he is one of my best buddies. Now do you accept with my last post !!!!!!

Poet….huh!!!Am I?

I was ransacking my bookshelves in the name of cleaning & jst stumbled upon my school calender, a very old one. There was a poem [As I call it] written in my own sprawly handwriting. Here it is… I wish I were….. I was on my maiden flight enjoying the dizzy heights, I felt I was a kite, flying free in sky. Curious, I was to know about the crew, the attenstion of airhostess,I drew. When I stretched my hands to take some sweets which are few, She asked me how many I would like to chew? She had gentle looks and soft voice, smiling face ;full of grace, Curious passengers were full of enquires, to whom she has her pleasing replies. It said that her salary was attractive, indeed her job too. I wish I were an airhostess flying in the air, with a beautiful dress, Flying round and round, up in the sky. Do u call this a poem? When did I write this? It is dated as June-18th,1998.I never remember writing one such poem.I don’t think...

Ganguly IN or OUT

It was a poignant moment in the career of India's most successful test captain Saurav Ganguly , dropped from the test squad on Thursday to all but end his international career.Having pushed Sri Lanka paceman Chaminda Vaas for a single during the second test which India won on Wednesday, Ganguly intently watched as the shot was replayed a few times on the giant screen. In his prime, Ganguly would have caressed that drive for four past cover. With selection at stake, it had to be a mere prod.In the end, Indian selectors lost patience by excluding him for the third and final test in Ahmedabad to focus on youth, all but ending the left-handed batsman's international career. The omission came despite his useful knocks of 40 and 39 to help India rally to a 188-run victory. In October, he was sacked as captain and one-day player after a prolonged batting slump and a row with coach Greg Chappell. He barely kept his place for the first two Sri Lanka tests after chief selector Kiran More w...

2005-A year of Natural Disasters

Though there r many gud things to write about this specific year the main thing that comes to mind is all the natural disasters that occurred through out the world. Beginning with Massive Indonesian Quake in February the year had faced a lot of quakes, volcanoes and storms. Then was the heavy rainfall at Mumbai that caused inundation of large masses of land .Had storms of varying names like Katrina, Wilma in America, a quake at Pakistan then lashing Chennai in the form of rain where people who did puja for bringing in rains ,are now doing the same for ending up the monsoon. And finally a large 5.9 earthquake that struck southern Iran. Jaggy has done a foto feature on Chennai Rains All these years v were quite carelessly working out things without considering the impact on nature. Now itz the nature's time to put us all into problems. Starting of with Tsunami of Dec 26th 2004 the climate has seen various changes with heavy snow and rainfalls and drought at many places in earth. Atle...

Traffic-cops and Bribe

We Indians always have this habit of portraying the traffic police as bad guys, since they demand bribe. But how many of us accept the fact that, in most cases (lets say 90%), he's demading bribe, since we broke the law. How many of us have the courage, to stand up and say that i'ld pay the fine instead of bribing him. Till today, I havent bribed a traffic cop. Even at times when i was caught for running past thr' RED signals, exceeding speed, i'ld insist paying the fine, and they let me go. Many times, I had scoffed at them, as they demand meagre amount such as 30-50Rs.It might sound a bit cheap, on their part, but the reality is that their financial condition is in such a bad state. I'm sure that their monthly pay would not be more than 7-8K, with no incentives. And even if he's uncorrupt, a traffic constable doesnt have the authority to fine; only a traffic seargent has the rights. So that being the case, the only way to punish the traffic voilaters is to bug...

Weekend Outings.

Image
Oops!!Exams postponed.I started pondering where to go atleast to give a short break. Finally convinced my parents for a drive towards a village called Tamaripakkam, around 35 kms from my place where Chinmaya's mission Temple is located. So thought of venturing out to that place since itz not an usual one where we normally roam around. A nice and calm place away from citie's dust and noise .It was exactly like a village shown in films with paddy fields on both sides of the wide highway. The monsoon has caused a wonderful effect on the weather and the paddy fields. The fresh air made us to pull down our car windows which is normally pulled up to avoid dust.Mom packed our lunch so that it wuld not b necessary to drive back again quickly. We reached the place around 12:30.The 65ft tall Temple and Satsang Hall is designed in the form of a Shiva Lingam. A Sphatika Lingam - an 'endless' form in crystal encrusted with diamonds and the granite linga was consecrated by the pouring o...

A visit to Singapore.

Singapore is actually called as Mini–India, but I would call it as Mini-TamilNadu. When venturing out of India for the first time, I was more worried about food with capital ‘F’ than the other factors like altitude fears. Missing mom’s idlies and Dosas was a horrible option to me. But was quite relieved to have all Chennai dishes out there. Out of all the places I visited in Singapore, I am jst putting down some of the best places I rem’bered. Sentosa Island: The Sentosa Island is located in the South of the city. The tropical forests which covered formerly the essence of the island of Singapore are limited today to the center where we find vast natural reserves. There are several ways to reach Sentosa Island, but the best is to take the cable car from Mt. Faber. The cable car offers some dramatic views of the city and Sentosa Island. Mt. Faber is not a terribly high mountain, but it is high enough to offer a good vantage point of the city. The Night Safari: The Night Safari is one ...
