When Shilpa could why didn’t Doctors reach!!!!
Gotcha…. It’s about the same fact. When a simple [Ok bad adjective...Agreed] but cute actress of Indian film industry enrolled into an event faced racial discrimination, it hit headlines, but why did we leave poor doctors in Britain unnoticed? Just because she is Shilpa Shetty and they are just doctors? That’s really sad.
Thousands of foreign doctors who came to Britain to work in the National Health Service could be forced home, after the London High Court backed the government's controversial decision to change the rules on immigration. And the new law was called “Highly Skilled Migrant Programme”. Hospitals must prove that vacant posts could not be filled by British or European Union practitioners before they recommend foreign doctors for work permits. Will I ever say that my citizens are not worth enough and please send me some people to serve my country???
The court found that the government's new points system, which disregards any previous UK work experience and does not give priority points for GPs, did not constitute unlawful discrimination.
I read about the comment given by Dr Edwin Borman, chair of the British Medical Association International Committee, to news daily. She said,"They were given the impression that they'd be able to contribute to the NHS, and spend their whole careers in the UK, then the rules changed overnight and many were forced to leave". Were we under the impression that we were contributing? It’s the most diplomatic way of saying, "You are thinking too high of yourself, we don’t need you".
About 450 doctors signed a petition last week and are seeking a judicial review of the decision, claiming the changes will force them to abandon the NHS and leave the UK. There was hue and cry for the injustice done to Shilpa Shetty, but we find silence in this case.Where are those voices, in this case????

- Yes indeed. Think what would hav been if one of the docs was a pretty actress.
Few yrs back - in 2002 to be precise, the same thing happened to Software Engineers. But there were so many loopholes then coz there just wasn't one employer unlike in the case of Health industry where NHS is the only employer (well.. almost) in UK.
There are more to it than meets the eye... if I find the time and mood, I will blog abt it as some of my doc friends are also affected by this.
But
Jannani!!
Half or more of the doc's who went to England, before or on the same time as these doc's are now Citizens of the UK. When these mutts,, er sorry I mean Indian citizen Doctors dont have the pride in them to come back and serve the Indian lot and earn as much, why even bother? eh?
They have been treated like crap for more than two decades now, not promoted much, still they opt to stay there...
Cheers,
NY?
There can be no talk of any sorta globalistion, open borders, multi cultural country etc when the state refuses to accept skilled nationals from other countries. This is protectionalism and it will further weaken their already rotting NHS system.
UK esp has no moral rights to stop the inflow of other nationals coz of her history.
Well when Shilpa can do why cant doctors.. the question is the hue and cry was raised by the media and not by WE THE PEOPLE.. She went because she was offered money and think abt the publicity the channel got becos of this issue and TRP ratings for the program.. Its all predoctored..
