The Boy who cried Wolf!!!Wolf!!!!

You remember the story???? Ok don’t gimme an expression like “Don’t be a ninny”. Agreed!!! You people did study well in KG’s. This was some experience I had in 2 different situations.

I was staying at my uncle’s place for a week. That was a huge colony with 270 flats in them. A well equipped security system, security personnel (He is paid for having a comfortable sleep without his wife’s nagging) and what else to be secure. Now….. One lazy afternoon there was deafening noise in the corridor. I mistook that as some toy’s noise. But after some time, I heard a lot of commotion below. Just gave a peep and saw half of the people rushing down the stairs yelling “Fire Alarm”. Ohhh My God!!! That brought me back to senses. And asked my aunt to just lock the wooden door and come out. After hauling down 6 floors in rush, the security person told us very calmly( to my irritation) that it was some circuit problem and electricians are working on it. To worse, the lifts won’t work until the problem is solved. Do I have any other option other than walking up 6 floors again?

And the other situation was in bank. Being the last working day of month the bank was crowded with pensioners. I was there to make some changes to the accounts. Suddenly the lights were out and deafening sound was out. A lady near by gave a blood curling scream that I almost got deaf. I felt I was in the middle of murder game (an oldies game). Lights were back in another 3 minutes. Suddenly bank seemed to be filled with detectives asking questions and releasing their own version of the problem. Some kid has pulled open the door that had an alarm fixed to it. This caused the alarm and power fluctuation.

The security systems giving alerts in such unnecessary situations may tend to reduce the sense of alertness in the people. People tend to react less when this happens again probably that will be a real time situation. Hope we make those security systems better….
